What type of flex-work works best for you?
-
Typical work day
+
This arrangement allows employees to have some flexibility in the start and end times of their working day and usually takes the form of a pre-arranged alternative schedule.
Flex-time might look like this:
- Days worked per work week: Monday to Friday
- Hours worked per day: 7.5
- Start and end times per day: 9:30 am to 5:30 pm (includes 30-minute unpaid lunch break)
-
Compressed work week
+
Employees work longer days or shifts in exchange for a reduction in the number of working days in their work cycle, on a weekly or biweekly basis.
A compressed work week might look like this:
- Days worked per work week: Tuesday to Friday
- Hours worked per day: 9.5
- Start and end times per day: 7:30 am to 5:30 pm (includes 30-minute unpaid lunch break)
-
Reduced workloads
+
Temporary or permanent arrangements where an employee works less than the standard number of hours per day and/or days per week and receives reduced compensation.
A reduced workload might look like this:
- Days worked per work week: Monday to Friday
- Hours worked per day: 6
- Start and end times per day: 8:30 am to 3:00 pm (includes 30-minute unpaid lunch break)
-
Job sharing
+
This arrangement allows two (or sometimes more) employees to jointly fill one job, with responsibilities shared or divided between them.
Job sharing might look like this:
- Days worked per work week: Monday to Friday
- Hours worked per day: 4
- Start and end times per day: 8:00 am to 12:00 pm (Employee 1); 12:30 pm to 4:30 pm (Employee 2)
-
Working from home
+
An employee fulfills some or all their job responsibilities at an office at home. Provisions for some work equipment or compensation for work-related expenses (ex. Internet connection) might be provided or paid in some part by the employer.
