We know that bias negatively impacts our workforce and we need to innovate and find new ways to decrease it.
As you have seen earlier in this lesson, the promotion of diversity and inclusion has many positive outcomes for businesses. But we challenge you to begin to think beyond the business case.
As Sarah Kaplan, Director of the Institute for Gender and the Economy, Rotman School of Management notes,
“It will be hard to make further progress if we continue to do the same old things within the same old system. In my mind, the demand for a business case perpetuates the existing ways of doing business, because we are being asked to make a case within the existing system — instead of thinking about how to change that system.”
