Encourage Employee Resource Groups (ERGs): in-house support groups for people with similar experiences, allowing them to share advice, empathize, and capture common practices.
Involve the employee in planning the interim state of their work, including who will cover their leave and plans for transitions back to their projects where applicable.
Provide uninterrupted access to benefits such as health coverage.
Allow uninterrupted access to the employee’s work resources while they are on leave such as access to communication tools and remote access to software.
Ensure the employee knows that they will be welcomed back into their role when they return.
