So, what is a sponsor, exactly?
- A sponsor is a senior leader or another person who uses their influence to help their protégée to obtain high-visibility assignments, promotions, or jobs.
- He or she is someone who has the power within an organization and can facilitate meetings and introductions, use their connections and credibility to advance a person’s career.
- The sponsor drives the relationship, advocating for the protégée in many settings, including in confidential meetings.
A sponsor identifies opportunities that would otherwise not be available to that employee through regular channels.
